Local charities Severn Arts and Onside Advocacy received a welcome cash boost when former Mayor of Worcester, Cllr Adrian Gregson, presented them with money raised during his year in office.

Cllr Gregson’s  two mayoral charities were Severn Arts, which works to bring high-quality music and arts to a wide range of people across Worcestershire; and Onside Advocacy, the provider of support and services to ensure fairness and equality for adults who may be vulnerable, disadvantaged or discriminated against.

Each of the two charities were invited to the Guildhall where they were each presented with a cheque for £8498.44. The money was raised through a variety of events which saw Cllr Gregson take part in Worcester’s 10k run, hold a lecture at the Guildhall and a civic evening which included a charity auction.

Other fundraisers included a wine tasting evening, and musical events involving Elgar Chorale and Worcester Concert Brass.

Cllr Gregson said: “I was delighted to be able to present these two substantial cheques to representatives from my mayoral charities, both of which make a big difference to the lives of people in Worcester. I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who make donations or contributed in any way to my charities during my year as Mayor.”

Laura Worsfold, CEO of Severn Arts said: “We are enormously grateful to Cllr Gregson for choosing to support our charity during his time as Mayor. His fundraising efforts have been amazing, and we have had a lot of fun working together on lots of different events including the Mayor’s Cabaret Dinner to raise funds across the year.

“This incredible donation will help to support the creative endeavours of more Worcestershire children and young people and especially those who struggle financially to access opportunities.”

Kate Harvey, Chief Executive of Onside Advocacy, said: “ONSIDE were delighted to have been selected as one of the charities to be supported by Adrian Gregson during his year Mayor of Worcester. We would like to say a huge thank you to Adrian and Rachel and all those who supported his brilliant fundraising efforts.

“The fantastic sum raised will be used directly to support our work with vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the city including contributing to ONSIDE’s Access Fund. This fund is available to people using our services who may be struggling to pay for essential items and who are being particularly impacted by the current difficult economic environment. Thank you, Adrian, your efforts will have a direct impact on improving the lives of people in often very tough situations.”
