We want as many Worcestershire children as possible to benefit from taking part in musical activity. This is why we are building a music fund to enable young people, whose families can't afford the cost, to access high quality music making experiences.

Affordability is the biggest barrier – if this is overcome then more children will certainly learn to play a musical instrument.

Jack's story

Jack started to learn music with Severn Arts whilst being home-schooled and cared for by his foster parent.  Trauma in his early life left him with extreme social anxiety.  With financial support and a nurturing music teacher, Jack was able to flourish.

I have come so far in the past few years, and I couldn’t have done it without the help from Severn Arts.” - Jack

I have seen him blossom both academically and socially," says Jack's foster parent. "I would never have believed that he would be able to participate in a music exam, attend an orchestra or perform in public.  I believe he is in a much better place emotionally as a direct result of the impact music has had on his life and this could not have been achieved without the help and support Severn Arts have provided.

Many families can’t afford the full costs of musical learning.  Severn Arts Music Awards Scheme is for children eligible for Free School Meals, families in receipt of universal credit, incapacity benefit or pension credit, and also for Looked after Children and Previously Looked after Children.

With your help, more children like Jack can be supported through Severn Arts to develop their musical skills, build confidence and grow stronger emotionally.

Our target is to have raised £30,000 for our Music Awards by the end of 2024.

Children who meet the Music Award criteria can apply for funded music making activity. Your money will support music lessons, instrument hire, group and orchestra membership, helping Worcestershire's children and young people to develop their talent and take the next steps with their musical journey.

By donating you will be helping a child, who might otherwise miss out, to kick-start their music-making adventure.
