Between 10 - 16 October 2022, The Rising is coming to Worcester. A brand-new 7-day cultural festival dedicated to tattooing, gaming and fashion which brings new opportunities for young adults to explore art and culture in unexpected ways. The festival, part of the Arches Worcester Festivals programme, will be made up of a number of smaller events taking place in locations across Worcester City Centre.

From a tattoo exhibition to a fashion show, from panel discussions to VR experiences, The Rising promises a mix of unique events to satisfy a range of interests. Attendees can expect interactive and immersive experiences, industry discussions, and exciting performances from local musicians. Worcester-based independent hospitality venues are getting involved too, with Pizza Freakz designing and creating a new pizza called ‘Rising High’ and The Oil Basin brewing their own event-specific beer.

The Arches Festivals team are co-creating the festival with The Rising Voice, a group of local young adults whose interests and experiences of living in Worcester has helped shape the direction of the festival. The Rising Voice will be hosting an evening hangout space all week during The Rising, offering festival goers the opportunity to socialise with music and food.

Produced for, by, and with young adults in Worcester, the festival is unlike anything the city has seen before. Set on a ‘blink-and-you’ll-miss-it’ premise, The Rising encourages participation in an exclusive club, using unusual locations and cryptic clues to challenge perceptions of space and culture in Worcester.

David Edmunds, Festivals Director, Severn Arts said: “I love that The Rising brings together such diverse areas as tattooing, gaming and fashion. We’re not limiting ourselves to what has traditionally been thought of as culture and that has led to some really interesting avenues to explore with The Rising Voice as we bring this festival to Worcester.”

Jo, member of The Rising Voice said: “It’s great to be involved in bringing something so new and different to Worcester. There are limited opportunities in the city for my age group so to be part of creating an event specifically for us and to see how our ideas have influenced the festival is so exciting.”
