A new exhibition celebrating the creativity of children and young people in Worcestershire opens in Worcester Cathedral on Sunday 20 June.

The exhibition entitled "Young Voices New Visions” is a collection of artworks created by local schools, individuals and community groups responding to the 2021 theme of ‘gratitude.’

Around 30 schools will be exhibiting this year, ranging from paintings to large scale 3D structures which will line the cloisters in the city’s cathedral bringing new creative ideas and colour to the walkways.

The exhibition which is organised annually by Severn Arts in partnership with Worcestershire County Council, this year brings on board new partner Meadow Arts, a trainee curator and the support of The Arts Society Worcester.

Elaine Knight, Arts Director, Severn Arts said: “We are very pleased to be providing an opportunity to showcase the artistic talent of young people from across Worcestershire.  We’re delighted to be adding a new role this year, supporting an assistant curator, who will be mentored throughout the week. We’re focused on providing access for all, particularly for children and young people and in making sure the experiences we provide engage, inspire and inform.”

Bobbie Whittaker, Young Voices New Visions Assistant Curator said: “I am delighted to be involved as an Assistant Curator this year. I applied for the opportunity because I enjoyed the process of curation during my Art Foundation at South Staffordshire College. I really enjoyed how bringing the artwork together as group can bring a space to life and give new meanings to all the artworks when they are displayed as a group. I know this year’s theme encourages 3D work, so I’m prepared for the logistical challenge of curating it.”

Matt Dormer, Cabinet Member with Responsibilities for Communities said: “We’re delighted to be supporting the "Young Voices New Visions” exhibition, showcasing the talent of young people across Worcestershire. The cathedral provides a stunning backdrop to the wide range of artwork that will be on show. I urge anyone visiting Worcester while the exhibition is on to pop along and view it.”

Young Voices New Visions is open to the public on Sunday 20 June (1 – 3pm, last entry 2.30pm) and then from Saturday 26 June - Sunday 11 July (Monday to Saturday 10am – 5pm, last entry 4.30pm, Sunday 1pm – 3pm, last entry 2.30pm).
