We're thrilled to share that Severn Arts, in collaboration with Reimagine Redditch, has secured a grant from the Inclusive Communities Fund—a £9 million initiative inspired by the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. This marks the beginning of a partnership project aimed at bringing positive change to the Woodrow area.

Over the next few months, an artist-in-residence will closely collaborate with Woodrow communities. Together, they will unite to foster community bonds, enhance health and well-being, instill pride in the area, and create a lasting legacy that truly represents and celebrates the local neighbourhood. The artist will work with both new and established groups in indoor and outdoor spaces through a co-creation process, ensuring that the work is relevant and owned by the Woodrow community.

Richard Bromhall, Programme Director for Reimagine Redditch, said: "People in Woodrow told us they wanted to ‘brighten up’ the neighbourhood. They told us about the challenges they see as barriers to health, wellbeing and creativity.”

“The co-creation process will ensure that the work is relevant to Woodrow people and is owned by them. The artist will have office and studio space in four community venues in Woodrow: Your Ideas' The Den (opening June 2024), Woodrow Meeting Rooms, Woodrow Library, and Redditch Borough Council's Housing Department.”

For this project, we are seeking an innovative individual or collective with a unique creative approach to implement a holistic vision for Woodrow. This residency aims to enhance community pride and change perceptions of Woodrow.

We welcome applications from a broad range of practitioners, including:

  • Artists

  • Designers

  • Curators

  • Creative practitioners

  • Arts organizations

  • Collectives of artists

The implemented vision will be inclusive, reflect and celebrate Woodrow as a place and its people, and change perceptions of Woodrow within the neighbourhood and in the wider borough. We are particularly keen that the residency enhances community pride and enables Woodrow to look outward. As such, the individual or collective will have co-creation and facilitation experience.
